Software Engineer, Host Network Function

Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $147,000-$211,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

• Develop host networking features implemented within the USPS and networkd system daemons.
• Design and develop datapath features in C++ for reliability, efficiency, and performance.
• Build and maintain the host networking datapath that impacts Google's infrastructure by processing packets in the stack.
• Collaborate with client teams to design and implement networking solutions that solve issues.
• Provide guidance on the host networking datapath to support projects for teams. Deliver impact by shaping the future of host networking architecture.

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years of experience coding in C++.
• 2 years of experience with operating systems.
• 2 years of experience with TCP/IP.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  
• 2 years of experience with user space networking.
• 2 years of experience with software-defined networking.
• 2 years of experience with performance optimization.
