Job description
Google’s Finance team is embarking on a multi-year transformational journey to build standard, automated, AI-enabled processes. To further this goal, we are looking for a Senior Program Manager to bridge the gap between strategic goal and direct execution.
In this role, you will help enable and deliver on critical programs that fuel the transformation of our Record-to-Report (controllership) efforts. You will be expected to not only manage the project lifecycle but also help guide strategic decision-making, solve complex problems, and provide deep problem-solving insights to support the strategic initiatives of the process.
You will proactively seek innovative solutions to finance operational challenges while balancing risk, speed, and cost, serving as a key partner to executive management. You will operate with a high degree of independence, aspiring to lead broader portfolios and influence cross-organizational collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Lead complex, cross-functional transformation projects from inception to close. Translate strategy into actionable roadmaps and drive consensus on business requirements across finance and engineering.
- Implement governance structures through Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) lifecycle. Manage risks, identify remediation plans, and communicate status to executive stakeholders.
- Work cross-functionally to document workflows, identify gaps, and propose improvements. Define/monitor key metrics measuring business impact of improvements, ensuring alignment with the organization’s goal.
- Build strong relationships across functions and product areas. Influence decision-making at the executive management level and facilitate effective working group meetings to move objectives forward.
- Serve as a leader within the team mentoring junior program managers, coaching on best practices, and leading workstreams that may include other team members.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10 years of experience in management consulting, project management, or a multi-national company.
- Experience leading multiple, cross-functional projects, and identifying and implementing process improvements.
- Experience influencing and communicating at all organizational levels, including partnering with executive teams.
Preferred qualifications:
- Professional certifications related to Public Accounting (e.g., CPA, CA) or Project/Portfolio Management (e.g., PMP, Six Sigma, LEAN).
- Advanced degree, MBA, or other equivalent specialized training related to Finance.
- Experience with implementing AI, Robotic Process Automation (RPA), and other automation technologies within a finance context.
- Experience in accounting, tax, and general finance with knowledge of standard finance systems (e.g., SAP, BlackLine).
- Experience leading cross-functional project teams through strong problem-framing, problem-structuring, and the ability to communicate insights clearly.
- Ability to work separately in an unstructured environment and manage ambiguity with strong business judgment.
