The US base salary range for this full-time position is $161,200 - $189,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Position reports to the Google office & may allow for a hybrid schedule as per Google policy.
The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.
Responsibilities
- Work with cross-functional hardware and software teams to model power consumption and define power targets
- Analyze and optimize the software running across the key components of the chipset (SoC) like CPU, GPU, Memory Subsystem and Connectivity
- Debug and resolve battery drain issues
- Collaborate with Android app teams across Google to help them optimize power
- Develop tools and tests for validating and monitoring power consumption
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics or a related field and 2 years of experience in the job offered or in a Hardware Engineer-related occupation.
- Position requires 2 years of experience in the following:
System-level knowledge, including hardware, software, and their interactions;
Mobile phone hardware subsystems, including application processor, multimedia, GPU, modem and wifi;
Optimizing software for power and performance improvements;
Linux kernel and Android system; and
Debugging and root cause analysis for system issues (code, firmware, software, hardware, operational) or Troubleshooting system issues.
