You'll work on our semantic layer platform, the connective tissue between business metrics and the databases that power them. This is the foundation that enables developers, content creators, and internal teams to explore data, uncover insights, and make informed decisions. In this role, you will design and build core systems that translate business metrics into optimized queries across diverse database types. You'll shape developer experience through client libraries and interfaces while evolving our semantic layer to enable AI-driven analytics capabilities. Define and evolve the semantic layer that translates business metrics into optimized queries across diverse databases
Evolve the platform to power AI-driven features including natural language interfaces and intelligent query generation
Architect and implement high-throughput services that deliver consistent, reliable metrics across the organization
Optimize performance, connection pooling, and caching strategies across multiple database engines
Develop and maintain client libraries that drive platform adoption across engineering teams
Design and build APIs that enable self-service analytics at scale
Improve developer-facing interfaces and tooling for dataset management and metrics exploration
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate requirements into robust, scalable solutions
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, or related field
5+ years of software engineering experience with significant backend development exposure
Expert-level proficiency in Go, with deep understanding of concurrency patterns and performance optimization
Experience building and operating high-throughput services handling thousands of requests per second
Strong SQL skills and experience working with analytical databases and data warehouses such as Snowflake and StarRocks
Skilled in building APIs, with preference for experience in gRPC and REST
Solid understanding of distributed system design including connection pooling, caching, and rate limiting
Strong grasp of data structures and algorithms
Effective communication skills and experience in Agile work environments
Experience with semantic layers like Cube.Js, DBT and business intelligence tooling
Front-end web development experience building React and NodeJs applications
Experience building and publishing client libraries in Java
Familiarity with observability practices including distributed tracing and metrics collection
Understanding of security patterns including authentication, authorization, and query sanitization
Adeptness in using AI coding agents to accelerate development workflows

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role.
