Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Business Systems Analyst (individual contributor) within Development Systems who partners closely with Business Process Owners and Project Managers to ensure business needs are clearly understood, documented, and communicated to project teams.
This role applies extensive knowledge of business analysis principles and system practices to support system assessments, implementations, and significant operational changes, including AI enabled use cases. The position operates under minimal direction, assisting in determining objectives and planning work to meet agreed outcomes.
The role represents Development Systems in interactions with senior internal and external stakeholders on assigned projects and is expected to communicate clearly, provide proactive status updates, and confidently present system capabilities. While the individual may coordinate the work of contractors, the role remains primarily hands‑on.

Requirements are testable and informed by appropriate risk assessment discussions.
Project teams receive timely clarification, analysis and proactive status updates to support delivery decisions.
Business partners are effectively supported and advised throughout system change initiatives.
Responsibilities:
Business Analysis & Requirements
Partner with Business Process Owners to understand business needs and ensure solutions meet those needs.
Interview stakeholders at multiple levels to elicit and clarify business and system requirements.
Gather and analyze information related to existing processes and systems to inform requirements.
Document user requirements, including rationale and priority.
Author User Requirements Specifications and coordinate reviews with key stakeholders.
Process & Communication
Create process diagrams and other visual artifacts to communicate business needs and system behavior.
Review requirements with developers, architects, and business systems analysts to address questions and gaps.
Provide strong, clear, and concise written and verbal explanations of requirements and process impacts to technical and nontechnical audiences.
Comfortably present, demonstrate, and walk through system functionality for stakeholders and users.
Proactively provide regular status updates to the project team and relevant stakeholders.
Testing, Validation & Readiness
Lead User Acceptance Testing by outlining test scenarios, coordinating execution, tracking issues, and recommending prioritization.
Conduct ad hoc testing of sprints and releases to confirm alignment with documented requirements.
Review requirements with validation teams to support risk assessment and testability.
Review requirements with training teams and advise on business processes that should be covered.
Advisory & Representation
Support and advise Development business partners during system assessments and implementations.
Demonstrate system functionality to users through demos to support understanding and adoption.
Represent Development Systems as a key point of contact on assigned projects and initiatives.
Rapidly learn and adapt to new systems and enhanced functionality as part of ongoing portfolio change.
Decision Rights / Accountability
Assists in determining objectives and approaches for requirements activities within assigned projects.
Plans and organizes own work to meet agreed project objectives.
Recommends requirement priorities and testing approaches.
Influences solution decisions through analysis and stakeholder input.
Leads UAT activities within defined project scope.
Represents Development Systems on project‑level discussions with internal and external stakeholders.
Coordinates work performed by assigned contractors, as applicable.
Stakeholders & Interfaces
Business Process Owners: partner to define and validate requirements.
Project Managers: align on scope, timelines, and delivery needs.
Developers & Architects: clarify requirements and resolve questions.
Validation Teams: support risk assessment and testability discussions.
Training Teams: advise on business processes and learning needs.
End Users: engage during interviews, testing, and demos.
Minimum Required Education and Years of Experience
Bachelor's Degree and Seven Years’ Experience OR
Masters' Degree and Five Years’ Experience
Preferred Experience and Qualifications
Experience gathering and documenting system requirements within a pharmaceutical company environment.
Experience leading User Acceptance Testing activities.
Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adapt to new systems.
Strong, clear, and concise written and oral communication skills.
Comfortable presenting, demonstrating, and explaining systems to diverse audiences.
Proven ability to provide proactive status updates and manage work under minimal direction on complex initiatives.
Ideal Experience and Qualifications
Experience supporting AI‑enabled system initiatives or advanced analytics solutions.
Experience working within Clinical Operations, Clinical Data Science, Regulatory, or R&D Quality environments.
Basic SQL skills for data analysis and data verification.
Basic Python skills for data analysis.
Understanding of system validation processes.
Experience coordinating the work of contractors.

The salary range for this position is:
Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
