Job description
As the Director of Product Management for Safety & Privacy, you will own the vision, strategy, and execution of how the Gemini App protects its users and governs their data. In the rapidly evolving landscape of Generative AI, you will build a product that is not only powerful but deeply trustworthy and secure.
You will lead a small, high-performing team of product managers to develop robust safeguards against emerging AI risks, while designing industry-leading privacy controls and data governance frameworks. This role requires a unique blend of deep technical understanding, regulatory awareness, and empathetic leadership.
Artificial intelligence will be one of humanity’s most transformative inventions. At Google DeepMind, we are a pioneering AI lab with exceptional interdisciplinary teams focused on advancing AI development to solve complex global challenges and accelerate high-quality product innovation for billions of users. We use our technologies for widespread public benefit and scientific discovery, ensuring safety and ethics are always our highest priority.
Responsibilities
- Build and lead a high-velocity "virtual team" to co-design safety mitigations directly with modeling teams, ensuring all features are "responsible-by-design" from the base model harness to the final App UI.
- Evolve the ecosystem from account-level enforcement to longitudinal intent detection, leveraging behavioral clustering and device signals to disrupt coordinated evasion while maintaining friction-free access for high-trust users.
- Synthesize safety, privacy, and security into a unified, multi-modal monitoring flywheel, ensuring the Gemini App meets global regulatory standards through automated enforcement and real-time threat intelligence.
- Partner with User Research, Data Science, and Engineering to lead initiatives that deliver measurable improvements.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Cognitive Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 15 years of product management experience, focused on AI/ML products or user-facing systems.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience in evaluating or fine-tuning LLMs for specific product use cases.
- Strong analytical skills and experience using data (quantitative and qualitative) to define success and drive product decisions.
- Understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs), Natural Language Processing (NLP), conversational AI principles, and model evaluation techniques.
- Deep understanding of modern data privacy frameworks (GDPR, CCPA) and complex data architecture.
- Exceptional cross-functional communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal and ethical requirements into clear engineering specs.
- Proven track record in trust & safety, privacy, data governance, or cybersecurity within a high-scale consumer tech or enterprise SaaS environment.
