A Day in the Life
The Principal Field Education Specialist is responsible for leading the design, development, and execution of advanced clinical and field education programs that support commercial success. This role partners cross-functionally to drive scalable, high-impact learning strategies aligned to business priorities. This position is remote to enhance cross-functional collaboration and organizational agility. This role requires up to 50% travel to support effective program execution and stakeholder engagement.
Plans, develops, delivers, and coordinates in-house product training programs for field support personnel and customers.
Obtains information needed to prepare in-house training programs; prepares training materials; develops course content; determines methodology; and coordinates development of training aids.
Ensures training programs meet company and customer objectives.
Maintains communication with customers to ensure effectiveness of training.
May utilize trainers with technical expertise.
Continuously revises lesson plans to meet new training requirements and ensure technical content remains current.
May be assigned to a core team to assess field needs for new or revised curriculum development utilizing the ADDIE model of instructional design.
Strongly influences the design of new indication and product launch education plans based on business strategy, with a significant focus on functional results.
Designs and executes engaging Field Sales and Clinical Specialist education programs that are targeted, purposeful, and increase electrophysiology knowledge and procedural skills in cardiac ablation therapies to enable commercial success.
Collaborates with cross-functional groups (PACE T&E, Product Marketing, Sales, Product Development, Services, Legal, Quality, and Regulatory) to create education programs, curricula, course materials, and assessments that support business unit strategies and comply with regulatory, quality systems, and Business Conduct Standards.
Demonstrates education effectiveness through systematic program evaluation and continuous improvement strategies.
Works collaboratively with the Physician Education team to develop and deliver new processes, quality standards, and improve team efficiency.
Demonstrates the ability to adapt quickly to shifting priorities to meet evolving business needs.
Drives measurable improvements in field readiness, procedural adoption, and commercial performance through high-quality education programs.
Program & Project Management
Owns end-to-end planning and execution of complex, cross-functional training programs and initiatives.
Develops and drives integrated program plans, timelines, dependencies, and success metrics aligned to business priorities.
Leads cross-functional stakeholders across global teams to ensure alignment, accountability, and execution excellence.
Proactively identifies risks, resolves issues, and implements mitigation strategies to ensure successful program delivery.
Leverages systems and analytics tools (e.g., Smartsheet) to monitor program health, measure impact, and inform continuous improvement.
Minimum Qualifications (Principal Level)
High School Diploma PLUS a minimum 11 years of relevant experience in a clinical lab setting, clinical training, field sales/support in medical device, healthcare industry or equivalent experience -OR-
Associate’s Degree PLUS a minimum 9 years of relevant experience in a clinical lab setting, clinical training, field sales/support in medical device, healthcare industry or equivalent experience OR-
Bachelor’s Degree PLUS a minimum 7 years of relevant experience in a clinical lab setting, clinical training, field sales/support in medical device, healthcare industry or equivalent experience
3 years of EP mapping experience
Nice to Have
Advanced Electrophysiology certification (RCIS or IBHRE preferred)
Associates degree and above preferred
Strong working knowledge of EP mapping systems and cardiac ablation therapies
Instructional design expertise and adult learning methodology experience
Computer skills: Excel, Smartsheet, Articulate & Rise, Adobe, Camtasia, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint
Strong presentation, facilitation, and executive communication skills
Excellent written communication and content development skills
Strong collaboration and inclusion mindset across global teams
Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with external customers and physicians
Proven ability to design and deliver impactful training programs
Experience assessing competencies, identifying gaps, and building curriculum to address performance needs
Strong understanding of medical device training and education program development lifecycle
For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
