In this role, you will specify, build, and validate capacitive sensors in new product applications, working cross-functionally with test, firmware, system engineering, and product operations teams. You will leverage your familiarity with product integration and manufacturing technologies to successfully implement sensors into high-volume consumer products. The ideal candidate will also bring direct experience with technologies such as capacitive touch sensors.
End-to-End Leadership: Lead the development of sensing solutions from conception through product release.
Prototyping & Design: Propose, design, build, and measure prototype sensing solutions to demonstrate architectural feasibility. Analyze design trade-offs to provide final recommendations.
Hardware Development: Design schematics and provide layout constraints for PCBs/FPCs.
Validation & Testing: Define calibration, test, and reliability requirements across the supply chain. Develop test software and scripts for verification, and characterize sensing solutions.
Data Analysis & Troubleshooting: Analyze engineering build data to assess process capability. Perform failure mode analysis, root-cause diagnosis, and system-level problem-solving.
Documentation & Communication: Author clear hardware specifications, build documentation, and executive communications for key development checkpoints.
Collaboration & Vendor Management: Partner with internal teams to deliver state-of-the-art solutions, and manage external suppliers (including providing guidance on failure analysis and corrective actions).
Travel: Travel internationally to support product development (up to 10%).
BS and a minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience
Strong foundation in math, physics, and electrical engineering.
Strong background in board-level analog and mixed-signal circuits and/or embedded systems, with hands-on experience in module-level design.
Ability to independently drive technical issues to resolution and coordinate efforts across teams.
Experience in the architecture, design, characterization, and validation of sensing systems, including theory of operation, signal processing, and design trade-offs.
Experience with manufacturing technologies relevant to sensor fabrication is a plus.
Proficiency in simulation and modeling tools (MATLAB, SPICE), scripting languages (Python), and statistical analysis software (JMP).
Cross-functional experience in a high-volume production environment, including a background in automation for test and characterization.
Excellent critical thinking, data analysis, and logic/reasoning skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
Come join the Sensor Technology Team! We develop groundbreaking sensors that are central to a variety of Apple platforms, like Mac, Audio, Accessories, and more. As part of the team, you will play a key role in specifying, developing, characterizing, and validating sensor systems used in these platforms—from proof-of-concept all the way through end-product launch.
