The Opportunity:
The Procurement Manager – Ingredient Strategy will lead the development of enterprise-wide sourcing strategies and drive high-impact initiatives that shape the future of Abbott’s ingredient portfolio. This role is accountable for defining and executing a comprehensive category strategy framework that enables critical business decisions across key ingredient categories.
With a strong focus on proactive risk management, the role will navigate evolving global regulations, strengthen supplier capabilities, and deliver measurable value to Abbott’s nutrition business. This leader will play a pivotal role in ensuring supply continuity, quality excellence, and cost competitiveness in a dynamic global environment.
The successful candidate will collaborate cross-functionally and influence senior stakeholders internally and externally, demonstrating executive presence, strategic vision, and the ability to translate complex business challenges into actionable, results-driven solutions. This position requires a forward-thinking leader who can anticipate risk, optimize supplier performance, and drive innovation across the supply base.

What You’ll Do
At the core of this role is the creation and execution of strategic frameworks—structured approaches that guide critical business decisions, align stakeholders, and deliver measurable outcomes. This includes developing processes and multi-year roadmaps, and guiding teams through defining objectives, execution strategies, and success metrics.
Strategy Leadership & Category Ownership
Define, develop, and execute global ingredient procurement strategies aligned with Abbott’s long-term objectives.
Establish category strategies that guide critical decision-making, investment priorities, and risk mitigation.
Serve as a thought leader on market trends, supply risks, and regulatory changes.
Drive innovation and sustainability initiatives across ingredient sourcing.
Manage purchasing activities and supplier spend in compliance with corporate procurement policies.
Process Development & Strategic Roadmapping
Design and implement scalable procurement processes and strategic roadmaps.
Guide stakeholders through structured frameworks to align on goals, execution approach, and performance metrics.
Analytics & Decision Support
Leverage advanced analytics to inform strategic decisions and optimize cost structures.
Identify opportunities for value creation and continuous improvement across categories.
Enterprise Program Leadership
Lead procurement efforts within cross-functional initiatives impacting quality, regulatory compliance, and R&D.
Manage high-visibility programs from problem identification through solution implementation with minimal oversight.
Ensure alignment with corporate priorities and deliver results that strengthen supply continuity and positively impact P&L performance.
Champion continuous improvement in procurement tools, processes, and governance.
Supplier Relationship Management
Build and maintain strategic supplier partnerships to drive innovation, resilience, and competitive advantage.
Lead complex negotiations and manage supplier performance at an executive level.
Cross-Functional Influence
Partner with senior leaders across R&D, Quality, Legal, Regulatory, and Supply Chain to deliver integrated solutions.
Present strategies, insights, and recommendations clearly to executive leadership and governance committees.
People Leadership
Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing procurement team.
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and excellence.
Drive talent development and succession planning.
Regulatory & Compliance Expertise
Monitor and respond to evolving global regulatory requirements impacting ingredient sourcing.
Partner with Legal, Quality, and Regulatory teams to ensure compliance.
Influence internal policy development and support external advocacy efforts.
Required Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Economics, Finance, or a related field required
MBA or advanced degree strongly preferred
Experience
6+ years of progressive procurement or strategic sourcing experience
Proven experience developing and executing business or category strategies
Demonstrated success leading enterprise-level initiatives with measurable impact
Experience collaborating with and influencing senior leadership
Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and interaction with governmental agencies
Prior people leadership experience with a focus on team development
Experience in food, dairy, agriculture, or ingredient procurement preferred

The base pay for this position is
$99,300.00 – $198,700.00In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
