Technical Program Manager, Construction Specification, Net Zero Infrastructure

As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you’ll use your technical expertise to lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects from start to finish. You’ll work with stakeholders to plan requirements, identify risks, manage project schedules, and communicate clearly with cross-functional partners across the company. You're equally comfortable explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical tradeoffs in product development with engineers.

As a Construction Specification Engineer, you will be responsible for the strategy and deployment of Google Data Center construction specifications to enable Google’s Net Zero goals. You will act as a subject-matter resource in the analysis, evaluation, and deployment of engineering specifications and technical requirements, including site characterization, material analysis, and performance criteria based on geotechnical and environmental characteristics. You will coordinate support to the Sustainable Data Center Construction team, collaborating with architects, engineers, general contractors, and stakeholders to provide expert guidance and implement strategies that reduce or eliminate carbon emissions.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $192000 - $279000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

• Work with engineering and construction teams to lead incorporation and alignment of sustainability and low-carbon solutions into specifications, analyze and weigh project constraints with technical and market feasibility and regional policy to identify emission reduction opportunities.
• Track and update construction specifications to accelerate the use of low-GHG materials across global projects, identify opportunities for deployment of novel low-carbon materials and collaborate with construction partners to test and pilot their use.
• Ensure Architecture and Engineering (A/E) and construction partners are informed of, and using, the most up-to-date sustainable specifications.
• Provide technical and administrative support including design/specification review, solution identification, and program management, support project teams with engineering expertise on an as-needed basis to ensure compliance and sustainability goals are met.

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience in technical program management, leading multi-stakeholder cross-functional initiatives.
• Experience working with data center construction across its life-cycle.
• Experience developing data-driven specifications and working with supply chain partners, such as general contractors, developers, and material suppliers.
• Experience working with global teams and participating in or managing industry groups.
• Experience managing global low-carbon deployments and deploying low-carbon materials for data centers.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related sustainability field; Professional Engineering license or equivalent international certification.
• 8 years of experience applying structural, civil, geotechnical, or construction engineering principles, methods, and practices.
• 8 years of experience in environmental compliance and sustainability, specifically within mission-critical facilities or large construction projects.
• 8 years of experience managing cross-functional or cross-team projects, including the ability to engage various project stakeholders.
• Experience developing program-level guidance and scopes of work for site characterization, risk identification, and critical design requirements.
• Knowledge of Life Cycle Assessment methodologies, large-scale facility controls, monitoring systems, and complex risk mitigation.
