Job description
Like Google's own ambitions, the work of a Software Engineer goes beyond just Search. Software Engineering Managers have not only the technical expertise to take on and provide technical leadership to major projects, but also manage a team of Engineers. You not only optimize your own code but make sure Engineers are able to optimize theirs. As a Software Engineering Manager you manage your project goals, contribute to product strategy and help develop your team. Teams work all across the company, in areas such as information retrieval, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, security, data compression, user interface design; the list goes on and is growing every day. Operating with scale and speed, our exceptional software engineers are just getting started -- and as a manager, you guide the way.
With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.
In this role, you will manage the strategy, scoping, and technical outcomes for database solutions within the semiconductor manufacturing domain. Your role involves the lifecycle from initial requirement gathering and architectural design to development, testing, and maintenance of database solutions. You will manage and architect structures across database systems (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, AlloyDB, and Vertica), leveraging SQL for querying and data analysis.
Google's Raxium display group has established a revolutionary semiconductor materials display technology that enables new functionality in display products, bringing to users a closer and more natural linkage between the digital and physical realms in applications such as augmented reality (AR) and light-field display. With start-up roots and a state-of-the-art compound semiconductor fab in Silicon Valley, Raxium is seeking to build upon its engineering team with an aim to disrupt next-generation display markets.
Responsibilities
- Manage a team of software and database engineers, and architect, design, develop, test, and maintain database applications.
- Develop solutions using database technologies for semiconductor manufacturing.
- Administer on-premise Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, Vertica, and PostgreSQL databases, and Google Cloud Platform AlloyDB databases.
- Follow software development standards and implement best practices in documenting user requirements, design, coding, and testing of database solutions.
- Partner with cross-functional teams, leadership, engineers, program managers, and data scientists to understand business and application needs.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience developing database solutions and performing database administration of on-premise Oracle, SQL Server, and MySQL databases.
- 5 years of experience developing analytical reports and dashboards.
- Experience with SQL server reporting services, Oracle database administration and management, database monitoring, database installation, Oracle GoldenGate, and creating and sharing dashboards and reports.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
- Experience architecting and developing robust database solutions tailored for the semiconductor manufacturing domain.
- Experience leveraging AI/ML methods, specifically utilizing Gemini, to drive technical excellence and improve system productivity.
- Familiarity with critical semiconductor manufacturing processes, including Manufacturing Execution System (MES), Statistical Process Control (SPC), SAP, capacity modeling, demand forecasting, MRP planning, and logistics systems.
This position requires an on-site presence of at least five days per week at the Fremont facility.
