Health AIML - Distinguished Engineer

We are seeking a highly seasoned, product-focused technical leader with a proven history of scaling machine learning frameworks and infrastructure from the ground up. You have a passion for transforming noisy sensor streams into crisp, actionable health insights while upholding absolute user privacy. You thrive at the intersection of infrastructure development and consumer-facing reliability. As a cornerstone of the engineering group, you will not only execute the technical roadmap but also establish rigorous coding standards and architectural principles that ensure our health features run like a finely tuned machine. You are energized by the prospect of taking massive data wrangling challenges and shaping them into performant, elegant software solutions that billions of users take for granted.

10+ years of overall software development experience.
Experience leading a team and/or a proven track record of cross-functional collaboration to deliver customer-facing features with machine learning capabilities in production.
BS/MS/Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Machine Learning, or related fields (or equivalent qualification).

Architectural & Infrastructure Scale: Demonstrated experience building, optimizing, and scaling massive data pipelines and machine learning infrastructure to accommodate rapid, hyper-growth customer traffic and real-time operations.
Real-Time Algorithmic Execution: Strong track record in deploying models that handle real-time prediction problems with hundreds of moving variables and imperfect or noisy live data.
System Optimization & Constraints: Deep appreciation for frontend and client-side performance, with the ability to optimize complex algorithms to run seamlessly on consumer devices under strict resource or latency boundaries.
Consumer Product Sensibility: Proven ability to manage and lead engineering efforts that map direct backend machine learning capabilities to seamless, intuitive, and highly performant end-user applications.
Technical Quality Leadership: Extensive background in driving core engineering processes, championing great coding practices, and determining optimal architectures for reliability, developer productivity, and overall service health.
Core Technical Foundation: Robust software engineering fundamentals with experience in large-scale platform development, transactional systems, or multi-sided optimization marketplaces.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, deal with uncertainty, and adapt to new and changing requirements.
Proven track record of contributing to diverse teams in a collaborative environment.
A passion for building outstanding and innovative products. This position involves a wide variety of interdisciplinary skills.

The Health AI team is at the forefront of machine learning and health science at Apple. We are looking for a senior engineer excited about solving real-world problems in the health domain that make a difference in our customers' lives.

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $311,100 and $496,900, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
