Are you passionate about using data to power the fastest-growing grocery delivery program at Amazon? Join our Retail Business Intelligence team as we scale Sub Same Day Grocery (SSD-G) analytics and build AI-powered solutions that transform how stakeholders monitor and optimize perishables delivery performance across Amazon's grocery ecosystem.
We're seeking a Business Intelligence Engineer to support SSD-Grocery (Fusion &
Swift) within a One Grocery context — Amazon's rapidly expanding perishables delivery network serving Prime customers across Fresh Fusion,
Swift, WFM Fusion, and Core Everyday Essentials banners. You'll build scalable reporting infrastructure, deliver operational insights, and develop AI-powered tools that enable business teams to monitor site performance, track customer adoption, and make faster decisions as the program scales toward significantly growing monthly active customers. While SSD-G is your primary domain, you'll contribute to cross-banner analytics that help leadership understand customer behavior and business performance holistically across Amazon's grocery offerings.
What makes this role exciting:
- High-growth program: SSD-G is Amazon's fastest-scaling grocery initiative, rapidly growing perishables customers — your analytics directly enable expansion decisions across sites and inform One Grocery strategy
- AI innovation: Build and deploy AI-powered analytics tools (automated callouts, self-service agents,
anomaly detection) that transform how stakeholders interact with SSD-G and cross-banner grocery data
- One Grocery impact: Contribute to unified reporting and analytics across Fresh, SSD-G, Core EE, and Whole Foods Market (WFM) — helping leadership understand how customers shop perishables across banners and where to invest for growth
- Operational breadth: Support reporting across site launches, customer adoption, topline performance, selection, promotions, and operational metrics for a multi-billion dollar program
-
Cross-functional collaboration: Partner with business leadership, Product, and Data Engineering teams across multiple banners to deliver unified performance visibility
- Technical depth: Design
ETL pipelines, build automated reporting, create self-service dashboards, and develop AI solutions using
AWS technologies (
Redshift,
Athena, QuickSight,
S3, Bedrock)
Key job responsibilities
- Build and maintain scalable
ETL pipelines, data models, and reporting solutions that track SSD-G performance across sites, zip codes, and customer cohorts using
AWS technologies (
Redshift,
Athena, QuickSight,
S3)
- Own production reporting for SSD-G business reviews (WBR, MBR, Doug H Review), including data validation, slide preparation, and automated metric delivery
- Develop AI-powered analytics solutions — including automated callouts,
anomaly detection, and self-service query agents — that reduce stakeholder time-to-insight from days to minutes across SSD-G and One Grocery workstreams
- Build and enhance self-service dashboards that enable SSD-G leadership to independently monitor site expansion, customer adoption, and operational health
- Contribute to One Grocery reporting and analytics — supporting cross-banner metrics (Fresh, SSD-G, Core EE, WFM), unified customer spend frameworks, and perishables performance tracking that ladders to SVP-level goals
- Write high-quality SQL to analyze complex datasets across multiple data sources and banners, delivering insights that explain "why" performance changed and recommend actions
- Support experimentation and measurement frameworks for new SSD-G programs (Rush, Variable Weight, Substitutions, Narrow Windows) in partnership with senior engineers
- Implement data quality monitoring, alerting, and documentation practices that maintain trust in SSD-G and One Grocery analytics outputs
- Partner cross-functionally with Data Engineering, Product, and partner BI teams (DEX Speed BI, GDTA, FIRE) to ensure SSD-G and One Grocery data infrastructure scales with program growth
A day in the life
You'll start most days reviewing SSD-G overnight metrics — are new site launches tracking to plan? Any zip-level anomalies requiring investigation? You'll check automated alerts and AI-generated callouts, then triage any data quality issues first thing, as the business is starting their day.
Mid-morning might involve building a new dashboard view for an upcoming site expansion wave, writing SQL to analyze customer adoption patterns across cohorts, or prototyping an AI agent that answers common SSD-G performance questions. Some weeks, you'll contribute to One Grocery reporting — pulling cross-banner customer spend data, updating perishables metrics that span Fresh, SSD-G, and Core EE, or supporting the One Grocery MBR with unified analytics. You'll partner with your manager and senior engineers to scope analytical approaches for ambiguous problems.
Afternoons could mean preparing WBR slides with automated data pulls, presenting site-level findings to SSD-G leadership, collaborating with Data Engineering on pipeline improvements, or working with partner BI teams (DEX Speed BI, GDTA) to align on shared SSD-G data ownership. You'll balance planned sprint work (dashboard enhancements, pipeline builds, AI tool development) with urgent requests (explaining a metric movement, validating a site launch readiness report, supporting a leadership flash).
The pace is fast — SSD-G launches new sites frequently, introduces new customer features regularly, and operates across multiple banners (Fresh Fusion,
Swift, WFM Fusion, Core EE). You'll develop deep expertise in grocery delivery operations while building technical skills across traditional BI and emerging AI capabilities. The One Grocery lens means you'll understand how SSD-G fits within Amazon's broader grocery strategy and contribute to analytics that help leadership make cross-banner investment decisions.
About the team
You'll join a six-person Online analytics team within the Retail Business Intelligence (RBI) organization supporting Amazon's grocery business. The team includes three engineers, two product managers, and a manager, supporting both Fresh Online and SSD-Grocery workstreams with a One Grocery mindset. You'll work most closely with the SSD-G workstream, collaborating daily with business leadership, Product, and partner Data Engineering teams — while contributing to cross-banner analytics that serve One Grocery leadership.
RBI's mission is to deliver transformational insights that grow the number of satisfied customers shopping groceries across Amazon. We take a "One Grocery" approach: identifying optimal cross-banner solutions, driving alignment on metric definitions, and building partnerships to scale impact across Fresh, SSD-G, WFM, and Core. We're in the middle of an AI transformation — building solutions that achieve 100x improvement in analytical velocity while doubling engineering strategic capacity. This team values intellectual curiosity, ownership, and a builder mentality. You'll have the opportunity to develop expertise in both traditional BI engineering and AI-powered analytics, contributing to solutions that drive real customer impact at scale across Amazon's grocery ecosystem.
